Torkwase Dyson

To mark Torkwase Dyson’s collaborative Pace Live performances and multimedia installation Liquid A Place, staged in 2021 at our London gallery, Pace Publishing produced a limited-edition double A-side dubplate.

A hand-numbered edition of fifty, the dubplate includes two tracks: Necessary Indeterminacies (2021), a remix of the sound piece from the artist’s installation by the DJ and producer Ron Trent, and Marchioness, a piece by the London-based artist GAIKA. For Dyson, the dubplate functions as a vehicle for Black Compositional Thought, a working term that “considers how paths, throughways, architectures, enclosures, objects, and geographies are composed by Black bodies. From these encounters I consider how properties of energy, space, scale, and sound interact as networks of liberation,” the artist has said.
